In the first half of 2024, I had the absolute pleasure of co-creating and co-producing an original live television show for Channel 31, Victoria’s hub for community television.
The show was called First Run, and presented an entirely new script and story every Friday night, live! The stories were submitted by local emerging writing talent from Melbourne and surrounds, and the show itself focussed on creating a platform for young creative people to test their ideas and make a name for themselves on the screens of Melbourne!
This show gave me a wealth of experience in pitching for industry support and funding, as well as budget and schedule management, and leading a crew of over 60 people.
Sharing creative and managerial control with my co-producer, Vivian Dobbie-Glazier, taught me so much about collaboration and how to achieve a shared vision in a fast-paced environment. It was also really fun.
Most importantly, working in live tv taught me how to think quickly under pressure, how to keep a cool head when things go wrong, and how to foster a positive, happy working environment for everyone who volunteered their Friday nights to make First Run come to life.
